Underoath - Lost In The Sound Of Separation
Very rarely does a monumental record find itself matched with the promise of commercial success. But the strength, intensity and explosive lure of Define The Great Line Underoath’s follow up to its over 420,000 selling 2004 breakthrough They’re Only Chasing Safety--is undeniable. With over 98,000 units scanned first week at charting at an unprecedented # 2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, Underoath are here to stay.

“We went into the studio wanting to make this record count,” says guitarist Tim McTague. “We wanted to make it life-changing for the people who heard it. We knew it had the potential to do well, but we weren’t basing our future on that. We feel we’ve written the best album that any of us will probably ever be a part of and above all else, we’re super proud of it.”

Crafted with the help of Atlanta-based producer/drummer Matt Goldman–who helped pour the rhythmic foundation–and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz–who lent his experience to help capture the guitars and vocals and encouraged these Warped Tour veterans to use E-bows, reel bows and experiment with delays and effects pedals–the resulting Lost In The Sound of Separation is a mind-blowing song-cycle that resets the notion of what hardcore, screamo or whatever you want to call it, can be.

Deitrick Haddon - Revealed
Deitrick Haddon is celebrated as one of the most diverse and versatile artists in modern Gospel music, and with his latest CD offering, he further exemplifies exactly why this is! On the heels of the aggressive and staunchly urban-skewed 7 Days, Haddon returns with an equally heavy-hitting pop/rock-tinged soundtrack of intense praise and sincere worship. In this career-defining move, Haddon sows the seeds for another branch in his ever-growing and expansive tree of ministry. While not forsaking the bass and strong rhythms that his listeners have grown accustomed to and quite fond of, Haddon incorporates new sounds, manifest in the prominent guitar licks, big drum sequences, and sustained notes.

Haddon's latest recordings are indicative of worldwide ministry; limitless genre-shattering and universal. His vocals are as passionate as ever, as exemplified in "The Lord's Prayer" and "The Word;" his lyrics filled with profundities, as in "Jesus 4 Prez," and his messages remain relatable and redeeming, as in "Save Yourself."

Produced by Haddon, along with his brother, Gerald Haddon, as well as heavy-hitters Warryn Campbell, and Dre & Vidal, this collection of songs is compelling, progressive, and masterfully conceived. Tracks like "God's Love," "I Need Your Help," and "I'm Alive," are sure to establish themselves as genre-furthering, bar-setters to which all future contemporary Gospel music will aspire. Haddon has outdone himself and continues to demolish any box that he finds trying to encapsulate his ministry, or most importantly...God!

Downhere Rocked My Socks Off.

This past week, we had Downhere stop by the store and do an impromptu concert for our staff. It was pretty cool. I won't even hold the fact that they are from Canada against them. That's right. I am passing on the opportunity to make fun of Canada.
Did someone put something in my water?
Probably. But that's beside the point.
We got to hear some songs from their new record. The album is called "Ending is Beginning" and it really is a great album. Downhere fans will be blown away. In fact, Downhere-fans-to-be will be blown away as well.
Downhere, if you are reading this, thank you for stopping by. It was an honor to have you come in . You reinforce my Canadian stereotype that all Canadians are just plain nice people. And to Josh from Centricity records and Daniel from Word Distribution, thanks for helping arrange the visit. It was great.
For those of you who are upset that you missed it, sorry. Maybe you should hang out at Baker Book House all hours of the day to see who might stop by.
Barefoot,
Josh Mosey

What's that old saying? A Teaser is better than a Taser? Is that a saying? Well, if not, then it should be. Also better than a taser is the band, Remedy Drive. Recorded in Los Angeles, the first time Third Day has worked on a project outside of the South, Third Day’s signature rock sounds gets an infusion of new energy thanks to the band’s new collaboration with producer by Howard Benson (Daughtry, Flyleaf, Hoobastank, P.O.D.). With his heart on his sleeve, frontman and principal lyricist Mac Powell gives voice to the emotions all believers feel as they attempt to reconcile everyday struggles with the hope born of salvation. Songs like “Run To You,” “Born Again,” “This Is Who I Am,” and the first single, “Call My Name” are like musical stepping stones on the band’s creative journey. The result is a new chapter in Third Day’s story; it is truly a musical revelation.

Big Daddy Weave - What Life Would Be Like

Big Daddy Weave has long been known for their poignant messages and words of encouragement through song and lyric. Songs like "Every Time I Breathe", "Let It Rise", and "Audience Of One" deeply resonate with audiences and have had a lasting impact on listeners.
Their latest release What Life Would Be Like dials up the intensity and asks the church body to step back and evaluate what a life with Jesus' influence would look like in the full spectrum of living. Not that the members of Big Daddy Weave have it all together, but it's an encouragement to step out together, to fail together, to link arms together and witness the masterpiece God desires to paint through each one of us.

Francesca Battistelli - My Paper Heart

Francesca Battistelli is no stranger to the stage, having been raised by parents immersed in the arts and Broadway; she developed a love of music, theatre, and performance at a young age. But instead of using these talents for applause and accolades, Francesca prefers to point people much beyond herself - towards hope in Christ. Her soulful piano-pop sound resembles a blend of her music interests- jazz, rock, gospel and R&B woven beautifully together with themes of trust and risk taking.

Nicole C. Mullen - A Dream To Believe In V2

A Dream To Believe In, Vol. 2 is the second installment in Nicole's thematic trilogy. While Sharecropper's Seed has an organically produced acoustic sound, A Dream To Believe In, Vol. 2 leans strongly in the opposite direction, with a very contemporary pop sounds, reminiscent of artists like Beyonce Knowles and Janet Jackson.

Nicole's songwriting talents that won her the Songwriter of the Year Dove Award are again evident on this her eighth studio album. Songs on A Dream To Believe In, Vol. 2 were inspired by many great moments in our national history that have significant importance to our faith walk with God.

The Classic Crime - The Silver Cord

What is the Classic Crime? History is filled with heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice and martyrs who died for their cause. Whether their actions were viewed as “criminal” in their day was irrelevant. From those fighting against injustice to those who stood up for the folks who don’t fit in, dying for one’s beliefs or one’s art is the Classic Crime. “Music has a profound effect on the listener. It even has the power to lift spirits and change lives,” reasons Classic Crime singer Matt MacDonald. “If we can see our music change a life for the better, than we’ve been paid in the kind of way we hope to be.

New Releases - 7/15/08

One lonely release today. I'd say that it isn't my fault that there is only one release, but for two facts. One, I don't think anyone minds particularly. And two, I'm not sure how it could have been my fault anyway. That being said, here is the new release.

Randy Travis - Around the Bend

One of the ten top-selling solo country artists of all time, Randy Travis has recorded the perfect country album. There is not one out-of-place note nor one false emotion on his superb new Around the Bend collection. His vocals have never sounded more expressive, better phrased or more soulfully shaded. Backed by cool fiddle work, his voice eases into slippery highs and lows while toying with the bluesy tune of “Around the Bend.” Few artists could be more convincing singing the stunning, cautionary lyric of the ballad “You Didn’t Have a Good Time.” “Faith in You,” the album’s debut single, is an extraordinarily emotive performance that alternates moments of meditation with flashes of passion. Each seems tailored to suit one mood or another of his sublimely burnished baritone. The bopping “Every Head Bowed,” for instance, is one chuckle after another. And there’s the wryly amusing toe-tapper “Everything I Own (Has Got a Dent).”

Until next Tuesday, keep rockin' out!

Capital Lights - This Is An Outrage
The dozen tracks throughout This Is An Outrage range from pure bred alternative pop to assertive modern rock, wrapped around a topical plane that spans the palette of meaningful, whimsical and satirical. The scalding “Kick It Off” is sure to be a fierce concert classic and the aforementioned “Worth As Much As a Counterfeit Dollar” possesses one of the most contagious choruses in recent memory. “Night of Your Life Is When You Die” is an anthem for anyone who embraces the straight-edge scene, suggesting the party hearty mentality isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. The energy escalating “Return” is amongst the disc’s most inspirational, while the historically slanted “Frank Morris” provides a fictional account of the famed Alcatraz prison escape.

Sever Your Ties - Safety In The Sea
Sever Your Ties, a Southern California–San Diego Christian metal band has established quite a name for themselves. With more than 34,000 friends on MySpace, the group has a fan base made up of Christians and non-Christians. The band’s vast appeal may be because of the members’ openness and one-on-one interaction with fans. The band’s music may be generally classified as Christian hardcore or metal, but Sean Marnul (vocals), described it differently. “Our music is like a monster truck going through nitroglycerine,” Marnul said. “It’s like the sounds of battle during the crusades.”

Fireproof Preview & Warren Barfield Song

This song is available on Warren Barfield's album, Worth Fighting For, which is part of the MPG Promotion (Click here for further details). Check it out today!

Fireproof is a movie coming to theaters this fall, starring Kirk Cameron, and produced by the same team that brought you Facing the Giants. Here's what the official website has to say about the film:

At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules.

Growing up, Catherine Holt always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter...just like her daddy. Now, after seven years of marriage, Catherine wonders when she stopped being "good enough" for her husband.

Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks.

As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment: "The Love Dare." Wondering if it's even worth the effort, Caleb agrees-for his father's sake more than for his marriage. When Caleb discovers the book's daily challenges are tied into his parents' newfound faith, his already limited interest is further dampened.

While trying to stay true to his promise, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again. He finally asks his father, "How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?"

When his father explains that this is the love Christ shows to us, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to love God. And with God's help he begins to understand what it means to truly love his wife.

But is it too late to fireproof his marriage? His job is to rescue others. Now Caleb Holt is ready to face his toughest job ever ... rescuing his wife's heart.
