Nate Glasper and iLive2Praize Ministries Visits

On Saturday, we had a great time getting to know Nate and iLive2Praize. Nate is simply a man living out his call to ministry. This is evident by his songs that he writes and the words that he says. On Saturday, the audience was involved with singing along and with questions that they had for him. One of the questions that the audience had for him was where he got his ministry's name from. His ministry's name and the ministry itself was inspired by Judith Mcallister's song Lifestyle of Worship.

"May the life that I live reflect Your glory
May the words that I speak honor Your name
May the thoughts that I think be pleasing unto You
May my life be a praise unto You Lord"

Nate desires to be in the presence of God everyday. His active ministry reflects this. The ministry exists to impact the world by offering true ministry to reflect God's glory. Ministry in both song and action. Coming up Nate will be heading to Haiti to help in restoring an orphanage that Grace for the Nations Church, which Nate is a part, has been sponsoring for 8 years now. This praise music is one "that will touch the heart of God". If you want to know more about Nate and iLive2Praise Ministries check out their website at ilive2praize.com

ICRIS Visit - Review

On Saturday, we had ICRIC and Band 101 come and do an acoustic styling of ICRIS's hip hop music. One thing that is great about ICRIS is not just his music, but also his testimony and his ministry. His music does not just points others to God, but reaches out and connects with his audience. I agree when he said that being a Christian is a process, cause God is always making us new by drawing closer to Him. ICRIS's Christian process is one that many go through. He has a bad dark past, but through Christ his future is brighter. ICRIS seeks to be the instrument of God to reach those who are lost in the gray shades of life.

Feb. 27 Release Party - Rochelle Jones - Review

Last week Saturday might have been cold outside, but at Baker Book House, we had some hot new music to listen to. Rochelle Jones' voice is that of a pure soul-felt sound blessing the listeners. Her song Let It Go was a fan favorite resulting in 2 encore performances of it.

Meeting her was truly a joy to see where her music comes from.

Great Gungor Gathering - Review

On Wednesday, we had the honour of the Gungor band come in and hang out with us for a while. I always love it when the live version of songs and singing are better than the recorded. It is always nice to go see different artists in concert, but I think that it makes the music even more richer when you get to know the artists a little bit better. When artists go to different store and do an in-store (even if it is not at Baker Book House) I greatly encourage you to go and sometimes see a different side of the artists. What I love about the time that different artists come to a more relaxed setting if the opportunity to ask them questions and express how much a certain song means to you. I know for a fact that artists love hearing from their fans, and in-stores are a great chance to do this. If ever you have questions or comments for an artist that is coming in to our store, but you are unavailable to come just send me an email (music@bakerbookstore.com) and I will talk to the artist for you and then let you know what they say. What I reflect back from Wednesday was these three things: Amazing talent, amazing people, and amazing God.

To Save a Life - Review

Over the weekend I saw the movie To Save a Life. For those who have not yet heard of it, it is an Indie movie, meaning it was made by a company that is not strictly Christian. The film does have a Christian theme. It is the story of young man who has it all: popularity, a pretty girlfriend, basketball stardom, a free ride scholarship to one of the top basketball universities in the nation, and a wealthy family. Despite all this, something is missing in this picture: his childhood best friend. The young man's world is shaken when that abandoned best friend commits suicide in front of him. He not only comes to Christ, but learns what it means to follow Him. This movie remains an Indie film by not mentioning the word "Jesus", but it does cover everything teens go through today: drinking, drugs, pregnancy, suicide, cutting, posing, the need to be loved, divorce, and abortion. Although this film gets pretty heavy, it inspires viewers to overcome those issues with God's help. Uncomfortable for some, but relevant for many. Not recommended for younger viewers, but a must see for many teens.

December's Best Sellers

Here are the Best Sellers for the month of December...
No surprises here with Casting Crowns being the #1 seller with their awesome new album.
"Until the Whole World Hears" is an great album as one would expect with an more upbeat praise and worship sound than the previous releases. In this album, Mark Hall is not always the lead singer on some of the songs; the female vocalists, Melodee Devevo and Megan Garret, of the group step up and lead giving a unique touch to some of the softer songs. Definitely a must hear for any music fan.
